Teachers from the joint NSF EFRI NewLAW and PAWR COSMOS Research Experience and Mentoring (REM) summer program attended and presented at the annual Emerging Researchers National Conference (ERN) on February 6 – February 8, 2020 in Washington, D.C. The conference is hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Programs and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Human Resource Development (HRD). These teachers included Juditha Capa Damiao (Martin Van Buren High School), Martina Choi (The Beacon School), Jason Econome (Stuyvesant High School), Qiaochu Jia (Forest Hills High School), Basil Masood (The Mott Hall School), and Adam Seidman (The Beacon School).
The teachers were among 1,600 participants of NSF-funded summer research programs who attended and presented at the conference. During the three days, attendees participated in workshops, breakout sessions, poster and oral presentations, and many exhibits sharing strategies for success, networking, and identifying enriching opportunities in a global context, especially for underrepresented in STEM. In particular, the teachers presented their work through a series of posters, titled โCreating Experiential Curricula about Wireless Technologies for Teaching Science and Mathematics,โ in which they shared lessons for math, science, and technology classes in middle and high schools.
